Dressage, jumper, or soccer prospect?

Found this video through stumbleupon.com and tracked it down to the Virginia-based Fairview Horse Center (FHC). You have to watch this horse -- what a hoot! His name is Fescoe, and his soccer moves lend a whole new meaning to the phrase "sport horse."

FHC bred this lovely youngster (Nevada/Shadow of the Nightxx), who was a yearling at the time this video was captured. He was later sold to Shari Goodwin. Look how light on his feet he is, and what a personality! FHC stands two stallions, Nevada and Oliver, and their offspring have placed well at Devon and elsewhere.

Now Shadowrider has shared video of her yearling Missouri Foxtrotter with HIS yellow ball. He's definitely got the moves!

And Tropical Storm shared these AWESOME videos of her soccer star. Check out the defensive strategies in Arion and FIFA #2 (which I put just below this text)...

  1. cool video - it's interesting how he plays with the big yellow ball - almost trying to lie down on it or something. The dog is too funny!

  3. I LOVE him! He's got the cutest white socks, like he walked in snow!

But all I kept thinking was, "Oh, watch out! Don't fall! Don't hurt those precious legs!" I am such a mom, LOL!

But so fun to watch him enjoying himself with that ball!

  4. What a beauty! Love those white socks. Now for contrast, here is my yearling Missouri Foxtrotter colt playing with his yellow ball.

  5. Shadowrider, since you shared the video URL I added it to the blog. I think your yearling is perhaps a bit further along in the concept of "moving the ball." Perhaps with this exposure you'll be receiving calls from recruiters?

  6. I have horses that play with a big blue barrel something like this. It is hysterical to watch.

  7. Eheheh... they're gorgeous creatures! We had a speller at work that would pick up his feeder in his mouth and canter along with it or throw it around his paddock or over the fence. Very entertaining.

  8. Well, my horse failed the soccer team. At my horse club we had a great big ball, the kind used to train mounted patrol horses to push through crowds. My horse got over his spook of it, mostly, but then he wouldn't push it. He's very logical, and I could tell he was thinking, "What? I touched it. What more do you want?" He's an Arabian, but the Qt. horses all seemed to get it. So much for horse soccer for us. We'll be watching from the sidelines.

  9. My warmblood "plays" with balls but it would have to be captured with the accelerated film that they use to show plants growing. Not a motivated player...

  10. That was actually a slow day for him, I didn't have the camera when I first gave it to him, that was 30 min cantering around like mad playing with it, LOL! Now he says it's too hot to make that much of an effort. I'm tempted to get a net and teach him to make goals. He also rolls around a white barrel I have for jumps, takes fly masks off everyone, steals blankets off the fence and gallops off swinging them around. He's quite the charecter.
