Damn you Jeffers Equine! More sartorial splendor

Found another great blanket -- turnout sheet, really -- this one by Weatherbeeta for Joules (an equestrian clothing line). Would you be shocked if I told you that the sheet has been ordered, received, and fitted? My fingers tingled as I filled out the order form. Would it be out of stock? Nope. I beat the hordes of would-be buyers to the front of the line and scored this harbinger of spring, a pastel stripey frivolous frock for Riley.
I took it out to the barn and tried it on him last weekend. Another boarder, a twenty-something, peered in our stall. "Are you going to make him wear that?" she asked. I laughed, but inside my head I thought, "Listen, I grew up in the seventies. This is tame." Like most kids of that era I went through a "rainbow period," incorporating that color scheme at every opportunity. Guess this is a remnant of that mind set. Still, I was shocked that she didn't like it. Chacun à son goût...

Why stop there? I could go all matchy-matchy and get this Joules shirt for myself.

  1. I imagine they do -- I tried to buy it from a catalog that has free shipping but they had not yet received their first shipment!

It isn't a vapid pastel -- very true to the Joules palette -- the colors are very androgynous and it suits a mare or gelding equally well.

  2. LOL, it makes me so remember my teenage boarding barn years. While I was very conservative in my color choices for my horse (okay, there were those neon red polo wraps and saddle towel) there were two girls in the barn who LIVED for the color purple. Back in those days, there wasn't as much choice in the colors you could find horse gear in and it almost seemed like a competition between them who could find the most diverse range of purple stuff for their horses! Ah, good times! :)

I think the Joules sheet will look smashing with Riley's chestnut coat. Love to see pics of him in it!

  3. Oooh, I saw that sheet myself and thought...."too cool for words." If my Boys needed another garment, I'd certainly be inclined to think of one of these. Do you think it would put the deer hunters off? *G*

You must post a picture of Riley sporting it!!

  4. Snazzy! It reminds me of the lining of some Coach purses...

I don't know if "roan" and "stripes" match though, so I'll pass on one for my gelding. :-)

  5. I can definitely imagine my black boy wearing that: he'd look quite the fashionista!

  6. Oh yes, very snazzy .....

It would look awesome on my black arab ...... pity I'm in Australia (the postage costs would be equivalent to the GDP of a small African country!!!) but I do like it.

  7. "....being that I too am from the same era as Stacey, my first reaction, upon seeing my Jeffers catalog, was quite similar to hers. However, I had to take pause because my barn, being extremely ultra-conservative, would probably hand me "eviction papers" should my off-track Thoroughbred turn up in that color combo! Buy hey, why not throw caution to the wind I say as I sign off and thumb through the Jeffers looking for a size 74!

  8. In an ideal world they would have had a companion blanket of more conservative "traditional" colors. Would still be lovely.

My trainer thinks it's hideous, but I think it's just darling on my little girly-girl

  12. That blanket more certainly made me look twice at the cover! Boy blankets sure have come a long way. I also remember the number of color choices we had as a kid to be very limiting.

  13. *LAUGH* Well I think it's fun, yet fashionable. It's probably a good thing that you have to mail order though; my husband is forever bemoaning the fact that we live less than one mile from Jeffers (and they have the most marvelous clearance barn... :o)

  16. I look at fashions today and think they're kind of drab. But then, I grew up in the 1970s and had my "fun" years in the 1980s, so there you go! For me, it's either bright colors or black. Love both the wrap and the shirt!

  17. I love it! I had a pair of bell bottom pants in the 70s that were made of fabric with bright horizontal strips much like that blanket.
