Peter Atkins and Henny at WEG: The helmetcam!

Peter Atkins has published his helmetcam video of the WEG cross country course, riding his Selle Francais, Henny (Henry Jota Hampton). Amazing footage -- with a little blip at 10:50 minutes that stopped my heart:

I believe they placed 24th overall?

Bob and I support this Peter and Henny -- Bob just loves Henny, and he admires Peter's obvious regard for his horse. I even created my own cell ringtone from the audio of the Rolex helmetcam ride. For our monthly membership donation to RunHennyRun, we get a special version of this video, with stop action and commentary from Peter. It is both fascinating and educational. You can support Peter and Henny too, at http://www.runhennyrun.com/.

  1. WOOOT! WOOOT! LOVE IT! I feel stupid - I was there and didn't realize who I was watching when Henny was going around. :-( Stupid me! Just joined the FB fan club, and will look forward to more Peter and Henny in the future. The family will love seeing this video, too, especially after seeing my photos of the event. Quite a different view from the saddle!

  2. Wow! That was some ride. I love the experience of seeing the course from the horse/rider's perspective and a LOVE Henny's ears! My Russell used to focus on the fences like that, and every now and then check back with me. (MAybe to make sure I was still there??? *G*)

The thing you don't see in the TV coverage but do see here is the length of the course and just how much galloping distance there is between fences. These horses really need to be fit and brave.

I can see why Peter loves Henny! I think I love him too.

  3. He's a machine on xcountry isn't he? He had some fear/anxiety issues when Peter started working with him, and he still has some fears in the dressage ring. Read the Henny web page for more info, but he's a really interesting, sweet, and lovely horse. And, you'll see he's a total member of the atkins family...

  6. Wow, that was awesome! What a ride! (And I have now vowed to never, ever, leave the safe confines of my hunter ring with the pretty little jumps that fall down if I screw up.)

  7. Awesome! Boy, he's like the energizer bunny out there, isn't he? Just keeps going and going...
That was great fun and my legs aren't even tired (although my eyeballs are a bit crossed ;o)
Where's the Dramamine when you need it?

  8. I would also like to see a helmet cam at some steeplechases. In fact, a few helmet cams, in case someone falls.

  9. God, don't you love eventing horses?! that was exhilarating! I love the way he put on the steam on the straight aways, although you could tell there was a little less steam towards the end. Also love the way Peter hopped off before even stopping the horse, and everyone was there immediately to attend to Henny.

It never ceases to amaze me what horses do for us.

  10. I also loved the sound of the wind in the mike, the sound of his galloping through the air. You could feel the length of his stride. Wonderful story on his FB page.

  11. That is so cool! Thank you so much for sharing that. I may never get to ride an eventing course, but through that video I got to pretend. :) Now I'm really itching to be back on a horse. Grow Chrome grow lol. Thanks for sharing that video.

  12. Fantastic! It conveys well how fast they go. Still waiting for a helmet cam of the Maryland Hunt Cup, The Grand National, Cheltenham Gold Cup, etc.
