Orange is awesome

A photo stolen from my very favorite eventing blog  Eventingnation.com's coverage of Galway Downs showjumping -- is this not the most wonderful color combination ever? This rider (Merel Bloom on Rumor Has It if I'm riding the caption correctly) has the panache to carry of orange, esp. with that blonde hair...

  1. Very snazzy and good visibility! I'm kind of obsessed with orange lately... must be the fall colours.

  2. There was a video interview of her on EN as well. She has an adorable personality, and really seems to love her horses. I will certainly be rooting for her in the future.

  5. If you're from the Netherlands, you better hope you look good in orange! Good for her. Orange scares me - I feel much safer in black.

  6. My riding color for the hunting season around here, that's for sure. But I certainly don't look that classy!!

  7. Oh God bless the Dutch...they are the best when it comes to jazzing up the rather-expected realm of equestrian show clothes. I worked the in gate for the team reining at the WEG last year and they even mention to show up the western crowd!

  8. Um, she's Dutch, no? They always wear orange.

  9. So I cheer for good horsemanship and good sportsmanship by all... but I still cheer along country lines, and therefore won't be cheering for her. That sure is Dutch orange, though, isn't it? I remember thinking how beautiful she is and how it works on her.

It's neat reading about a very talented young rider from another country trying to get in her qualifications, since typically we only hear about that with riders from the US (even if they're hoping to compete for a different country.)

  10. Oh, but not to be mistaken - I do root for EVERYONE out on cross-country, and respect and admire and hope to emulate great riders regardless of their country. I just want the US to win. :)

  11. I am not sure anyone would have picked that color, ALTHOUGH I've seen an orange saddle -- really orange, not just an orange-new type saddle...

  12. Orange is a tough color to wear and she carries it off beautifully, especially with that lovely smile.

  13. I have several Dutch friends, and they seem to all be blessed with good looks, great smiles and fun personalities (as well as height - did you know they are the tallest nation in the world? One of the GIRLS I know is 6'3"!). I also have no problem rooting for the Dutch team in equestrian events (not OVER the U.S., of course) given that I myself am 1/4 Dutch... I think it's a marvelous little country and I applaud their lovely sense of style as well. :-)
