Weird non-equestrian-equestrian fashion: hosiery leggings

The thing about full seats and extended patch and knee patches is, they serve a purpose, especially for people who ride more than one horse a day. Why, why, why would anyone want, or need, to have fake patches on hose?

What do you guys think? Thumbs up? Down? Indifferent?

  1. Idiotic, in my opinion....but then again, it's all part of that "Equestrian" trend in fashion. The fake riding boots and jackets were just a beginning. I guess it had to go somewhere....*sigh*

  2. Bizarre!

(the opinion of one whose idea of dressing up is a clean sweatshirt)

  3. I don't like the whole equestrian trend...mostly because if I have to stop at a store on my way to or from the barn, I feel like people will think I'm trying to be "cool" by dressing like that!

  4. I hate the equestrian fasion trend. Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but I can't help but feel insulted every time I see fake riding boots (don't get me started on the boots with a pointless "spur"... I found), pants, jackets, etc.

Although, I can appreciate it in one way. It makes it a heck of a lot easier to go out in public in my riding clothes now. Stares and points have significantly decreased.

  6. Disgusting! A couple months back I saw "riding pants" at GAP with knee patches on them. This morning I was browsing for a belt at Target and there was a fashion belt that that reminded me a lot of a surcingle or girth.

  7. Fake breeches and riding boots are one thing, but the leggings are awful. I don't understand why anyone would want them.

  8. That's really strange. Maybe suitable for chubby knees that go "swish, swish" when one is walking? But as far as fashion? I don't think that's pretty or flattering to the leg. I haven't noticed the equestrian fashion trend here in Colorado...but I don't get out much. I seem to go mostly from home to work to grocery store to barn.

  9. Don't know about you guys, but I plan to wear a tutu and fairy wings the next time I ride.

  10. Maggie, the teenage girls at my barn have you beat. Some of them have started wearing tutus everytime they ride now as a running joke. It's sad and entertaining all at the same time. haha

  11. I live in a very small town and I still get stares when I stop in the convenience store in my tall boots and breeches. Guess the trend has not made in to small town USA just yet!

  12. It just offends me when people wear fake riding stuff!! What kind of an equestrian would wear HEELS with riding breeches??!!??!! Also some fashion designers came up with full seat breeches that have the patch in the frount and they look ridiculous!! They look like fools wearing backward breeches and high heels its just offensive! Plus they is a point to the patches and some fake breeches have them in the dumbest spots!!!

  13. Very interesting use for stockings. Stocking meant for horseback riding. I've never heard of such of things but I guess there is a first time for everything.

  14. Ya know, we should try and give them a chance and do what we do in fake spurs and their "riding boots" in a saddleseat, right?
