Stanley tool trunk: One caveat

There is one real downside to the boxes -- probably applicable to the more "rustic" barn settings -- I read that the front latches can rust. Bob is going to come out this weekend and spray it with anti-rust something-or-other. Consider yourself informed! Those of you who have the trunk, are there other things to look out for?

Riley is concerned about rust.

  1. If only rust was my biggest storage concern. I'll swap you for bird poo (they just love flying into the barn for a quick roost), blacksmiths who move everything to create their ideal workspace (fair enough) then don't put it all back again, neighbouring horses that use the corner of your locker as a chew toy...

  2. I've had one for a long time, my lock never rusted.. :/

    But spraying it can't hurt!

  4. True, true about the rust. Mine are starting to get pretty rusty. They're going to need some WD-40 or anti-rust soon haha!

  5. Riley is a wise young man.

Rustoleum or something like it should solve the rust issue. If that's all that can go wrong, it's not much. So, the trunks keep a high rating.

  6. I went to Lowe's on my way home this evening and there is a similar model to the Stanley but by another company (can't remember the name and can't find it online). Has wheels, a wider almost "oar-like" handle, and a different opening. No metal. I didn't look closely to see if it could be padlocked, but anyway, there are other versions of the same thing. I didn't get one--wanted to look at the Stanley Stacey has described--but anyway, SUCH a good idea!

  7. I have used two for 7 years. No rust and no complaints! I love them.
