Check to see how much grain he's getting. One show barn I was in only fed a handful of grain to their jumpers and hunters, although they were up to their eyeballs in hay. I followed that regime of feeding oats when I got my place: it made life so much easier on horses that weren't tanked up on energy.Barbara Martinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00610140328527165017noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6317822193674196694.post-57935342956416254222008-12-03T15:01:00.000-05:002008-12-03T15:01:00.000-05:00I have to agree with Grey Horse Matters, adding th...I have to agree with Grey Horse Matters, adding that he is a youngster and youngsters can have whooie moments. We had a young filly that was very quiet and calm her yearling and two year old summers but coming into the winter that she turned three she would go along quietly and then a noise would spook her and it was Arabian princess time (which was quite humorous to watch since she was a POA Dawsonfamilyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16027540248141972742noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6317822193674196694.post-84738668262021335512008-12-03T13:01:00.000-05:002008-12-03T13:01:00.000-05:00I have a two year old that is VERY quiet, and soun...I have a two year old that is VERY quiet, and sounds like the way Riley was. However, after a few days in a stall (she is normally in a pasture). She was a handful. Luckily she settled back down. I am sure all the recent changes have stirred Riley up, and after all he is still just a baby. When they behave so well, it is easy to forget they are just youngsters.Five O'Clock Somewherehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00764856841984160593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6317822193674196694.post-53385647946119773772008-12-03T09:12:00.000-05:002008-12-03T09:12:00.000-05:00Hey Stacey I gave you the same award! good to kno...Hey Stacey I gave you the same award! good to know that you're loved, huh? :)Dressage Momhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13741448152235721941noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6317822193674196694.post-41000705710011342162008-12-03T08:46:00.000-05:002008-12-03T08:46:00.000-05:00I bought a 4 year old Arabian who was supposedly ...I bought a 4 year old Arabian who was supposedly bomb proof. His trainer had done a wonderful job and even used him to demo at de-spooking clinics. But once I brought him to my place, that disappeared. 4 years is still baby, and I had rocked his known world. He wouldn't lift his feet for me, open his mouth for the bit. I understood what he was going through. The new diet, new barn, scary poles, the indoor, cold weather etc... but whatever it is he will calm down eventually once he gets used to everything.
