Sitting trot help -- can't have too much!

Biomechanics in riding is all the rage, as evidenced by the jillions of biomechanics specialists, mechanical horses, and exhibits at horse expos. But here is the real deal, as far as I'm concerned--Susie Peacock helping a Grand Prix rider with her sitting trot on a Standardbred/Selle Francais cross, no less. The full video is available from my favorite online horse video subscription service -- Horse Hero

A word on Horse Hero. I've been a subscriber for two years, and it's only $25 USD for a continuous stream of fresh, informative videos. Here's a motivator -- the first two people to leave a comment that they've joined Horse Hero (backed up by the email receipt) gets the much-coveted Behindthebitblog.com t-shirt, Andy Warhol design.

  2. Long time lurker, first time poster. I ride primarily western, but do try my hand at hunt seat as well as dressage. LOVE this blog, it is sooo educational and exposes me to several things I don't get to see here in western Nebraska! Thank you!!

  4. I just got a Horse Hero membership two weeks ago, in part thanks to your blog! LOVE IT! It's completely worth $25USD/year to essentially get to listen in on grand prix level lessons/clinics and other fun stuff!

  6. I love the concept of lifting the inside seatbone, since so many directives in dressage tell the rider to sit down on the inside, but the horse needs to lift the inside! I have also been taught to send my upper body forward. My instructor calls this the buoy effect, which is exactly how it feels.

P.S. I have started a blog! I hope you will stop by.

  7. I feel like I've had a work out just watching this. When she was cantering, I was moving my shoulders. An exercise that I have found helpful in lifting my chest is doing port au bras over my head (ballet) and being sure to lift and open my chest when I do it. It does create a muscle memory.
These horses are so good to go 'round and'round in circles for us. He is a lovely mount.
