I especially love this girl's walk -- she's a total Marilyn Monroe -- but her gaits are so lofty and regular for a youngster! I love the low-key way she is being ridden -- it looks like she is choosing her own pace, not being pushed into it. I have to admit to loving the big-show trots, and I suppose they are okay for doing a video or at an action. At home, schooling, this strikes me as a very nice pace. Besides, this mare doesn't need to be run off her legs to be impressive.

I like her much better than the last European mare you posted. Those super exaggerated gaits just don't appeal to me at all. This girl looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteLovely and relaxed, yet still showing quite impressive gaits. I really like this horse and, though she too tends to be behind the vertical often, she does go out to the bit more than once in this video.
ReplyDeleteNow, to make the best impression, that rider needs a straighter back instead of being hunched over, but there isn't much else to complain about in riding finesse. Nice job on a horse I wouldn't mind having in my barn.
I can't say I love the slow-mo videography, but I had to laugh at your comment "she's a total Marilyn Monroe" - I've never heard that before? You mean, kind of 'vampy?"
ReplyDeleteHi Corinna, I've heard folks use that phrase to describe the swingy, catlike walk of a nice mover. I think it's the swingy hips, and yes it's probably vampy to the avg boy horse!
ReplyDeleteBob Baffert described the perfect TB mare: Face like a princess, butt like a washerwoman, walk like a hooker ;o)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bandit up there; those monster trots in dressage are too over the top. Very pretty moves indeed (what a lovely girl ;o)
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this, what a beautiful horse!
ReplyDeleteI don't usually make a comment since I am not a dressage person but that mare is something special. She is so free and easy. Just my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Marg - this girl would be enough to make me put thoughts of jumps right out of my head! :-) WOW. So free, easy and natural self-carriage. I did not see BTV-ness. I did see that phenomenal walk - talk about overstep! And yes, that was very smart of the producer to do the slo-mo which shows it off so nicely. Laughing at the Baffert quote... heard that before but it's a classic (and very true).
ReplyDeleteOMG did I just see an 18"+ over-step at the walk there??? Holy ...
ReplyDeleteCould you imagine trying to keep shoes on that? Two words: BELL BOOTS!!!!
Yeah ... fact: Those over-produced "monster" trots = lots of stifle/hock injections later in life. You can breed uphill until you get a literal giraffe, I think.
