Nature or nurture in cutting horses

I don't know much about how much of cutting horse behavior is trained, but this horse seems to enjoy it in his spare time!

  1. Nature! A cutting horse has to have enough "cow & want to" in their nature & heart to do it for you. Bloodlines are developed for it. Remember, once you get your cow cut, you're working completely hand down with only your mutual partnership, feet, body position, mind, focus & energy to get it done. The horse that started my career was special...he body blocked a bad cow to make our cut, worked 1 seconds shy of a full minute during competition (big deal!) & even competed perfectly for me when one rein dropped to the dirt. LOVE :D Thanks for sharing.
