Harv gets rewarded for bad behavior

This is a story without a moral. I was dimly aware that Harv was "a problem" for some of the boarders. What started as murmurs and innuendo finally came to a head last week, and now everyone speaks openly about it.

Harvey is naughty. He torments the horses in the wash stall adjacent to his dutch door, lungeing and air biting at them while they are helplessly immobilized in cross ties. He also bites the butts of horses walking past his stall.

Movin' on up!
Boarders "went public" with Harv's issue because our barn, normally at capacity, has an open stall. It's a nice stall, the equivalent of a big corner office with a view. It was agreed that Harv should have the stall, not because we are next in line seniority-wise, but because he is such a pest in his current location. In this case, being naughty paid off, big time.

To top it off, the stall is close to his old "frenemy" Skippy. Many of you know about their past, which I blogged about some time ago.

This is a truly embarrassing video I made for Bob, to show him the new stall. I never thought I'd actually post it, it's silly. The singing (my singing) is the coup de grĂ¢ce. But it's the weekend, when no one reads blogs; I don't feel like blogging; and hey, I'm not proud.

  1. My Russell used to be naughty in the same way, but he would usually mind his manners when people reminded him. Apparently Harv had an ulterior motive as he knew the posh stall was coming vacant soon.

May he be happy in his new "digs" and joyfully reap all the benefits of his errant behavior. *G*

  2. LOL - loved the captions!

I hope he likes that place of honor by the little donkey.

(funny - word verif is bahoonym, which sounds like the word for those songs we sing to our horses)

  3. That video completely cracked me up. I especially loved the captions. Pretty sure my horse would do the same thing if he had the opportunity...tormenting every horse in sight from the comfort of his stall! Skippy is extremely cute :)

  4. Aww cute little donkey. A bigger stall would be much better for your boys recovery. I do consider horses being able to lunge and bite a definite design flaw! One barn I work at theres this rank b*tch of a mare that lunges at every horse (minus a mini which she has convinced herself really is a foal and not a 6 year old) I got one of those white cotton stall guards and bungee corded it above her dutch door so she leaves the rest of the horses alone. Her owner refuses to move her.

  5. Harv, you naughty boy! But now he will definitely be out of everyones way lol. At least he has two windows.... and the donkey's stall is soooo cute and little!!!!

There's two paddocks on either side of our outdoor arena that have horses that like to stick their heads out and make ugly, bared-teeth faces at the horses riding by. Greta makes it a struggle to keep her in a straight line on those two sides because she knows there's a mean horsey waiting to nip at her. What a weenie. They've never actually bitten anyone.

  7. LOL. Great vid ;D.

Skippy's little stall is cute, all custom for his wee size. Love it!

  8. I used to school on a horse that had bad manners - to people, not other horses! His trick was not to look him in the eye when it was time to get him out of the stall.

Hope Harv enjoys his new stall!

  10. Cute captions. Armani is the barn trouble maker here.

But really who can blame Harv? Not a well positioned wash stall. Well I bet Harv will enjoy his new house. Looks like a nice barn really. :)

  11. Hmm. Think I know what you mean. Tucker has a "naughty bar" which is one of those rubber stall guards that is installed above his dutch door to protect passers-by from sudden attacks. I personally didn't think my sweet innocent boy was capable of such offenses but then saw it with my own eyes and couldn't deny it. It seems that all the best bay geldings in the world must be prone to this behavior....

  12. Nice stall. Don't worry about the poor lighting. Horses have excellent night vision.
