A picture can make you cry

I sometimes fantasize about getting professional shots taken with my horses -- but then I recall that I just don't photograph well (not the dazzling vision that I'm am in person, see?). That said, I LOVE seeing horse/rider/owner photos that show a connection between the horse and the person. These were part of my Facebook stream this morning. What can I say? The photos speak for themselves. Thanks to Fire and Earth photography for letting me share these with you. I believe this is Cassie Barteau. There are also some awesome shots of Yvonne Barteau on the FE Facebook page.

  2. wow, wow- beautiful. In theory, I would love to have gorgeous photos of myself with my horse. In reality, 1. I don't photo particularly well and 2. what would I do with the photos once I have them? The fear of appearing vain would limit their presence in my home or office.... would much prefer to hang or feature action shots with my horse! But I do appreciate beautiful horse photos. Maybe I could have done a wedding dress photo on my grey... but he would have none of that, no huge, white, voluminous fabric near him, thank you very much. :)

  3. I was fortunate enough to get to do a shoot with my 3 critters and I treasure those pics! I was hoping for just one good shot where we all looked halfway decent and was dazzled by 20 or so that we're absolutely lovely! You should go for it, you're beautiful and you'd be shocked at how great a pro can make you and your animals look in print, it's amazing! Here's a little sampling of mine :) http://eyeonthehorse.blogspot.com/2011/03/better-pictures.html

  4. Getting good horse pics can be so hard. Most of the time when I've gotten a good one, it's entirely by accident.

    These are lovely.

  5. Now wait a minute, I think you take perfectly nice photos! :-) You SHOULD book a session with a professional photog for you and the boys. I bet you would really treasure those photos and you wouldn't have to publish them if you didn't want to.

These pictures here really are gorgeous. Ri and Harv may not have all that hair but they are both extremely handsome, anyway. I say go for it! :-)

  6. I would advise that if you aren't a very photogenic person that is all the more reason to have professional photos done. A true professional will know how to pose you and your horse to get the best results.

  10. I think you should TOTALLY find someone to shoot you and your horse!!!!! I love when people come to me and say....I don't photograph well. We have a nice session. Then I make them a gallery...and they call and are amazed at how great they look.

Really a good artist will find your best angles, the best light, the best moments. A good Equestrian photographer will make sure that both you and your horse look great!

Corinna...I don't think it would appear vain...Ive had people come to me and just want really great headshots for office material (business cards, brochures, websites) and want there horse with them. And I've had others who want a nice long Lifestyle Type shoot. They are looking for a special moments. More artistic shots that showcase the relationship or emotional bond. I think you can find a Photographer who can give you exactly what you want.

  11. Beautiful! I wish I photographed so well lol. And I wish I had that Friesian (favorite breed). :)

However . . . is that bit too tight or is she pulling back that hard?

  12. Thank you very much for using my photos and properly crediting them! I am glad people get to enjoy them. The photo is of Kassie Barteau, USDF Bronze, silver and gold medalist (dressage).

I love to take images like this. Kassie is always photographed in the show ring and never gets a chance to just get images of what she truly enjoys... the bond she has with her horses. Her schedule is very tight, so we had a short time to photograph her and this horse... so the horse was a little anxious since she did not have time to get him worked a little before the shoot. However, she did a great job of modeling for me.

Always trust a true professional... no matter the situation. We can really bring out the true beauty because we can see it.... sometimes we have to convince the client though!!! But when they see the images, and the look on their faces.... it makes every ounce of hard work worth it times ten!
