While mule conformation does not typically contribute to an ideal dressage prospect - check out the *relaxation* in those clips! I suspect the mule's mind leads to that. You must allow the relaxation, or won't get anything like a dressage test happening. I hope someone familiar with mules chimes in, because all of those clips just looked like they exhibited exceptional relaxation which made them a complete pleasure!
Some of those mules were really nice movers. Hard to say if their conformation would allow a lot of the upper level work, but they were all going nicely in what appeared to be training level frames.
There used to be a video on Youtube of a dark bay mule competing very well at -I forget- first or second level. I went looking for it, but it was removed. Too bad really because the rider was brilliant too. I love mules. Somewhere in my future is a second mount -a big old mule.
I rode with a gal who had trained with Dominique Barbier in Idaho. She told me she had gotten beat at a dressage show by a mule--obviously an embarrassment to her. I think mules are terrific! Would love to have one someday. I hear they are smarter, more level-headed, won't hurt themselves doing stupid stuff.
This video is so squeeee! I want that buckskin/dun mule. So cute. In other news, there was a video I found some time ago of a camel doing dressage. It was...not bad. Lol.

Correct Connect helps you develop better contact with your horse. The reins/gloves were developed by Olympic eventer Jill Hennenberg and endorsed by recognized trainers. Read about them!
Love it! We have a mini mule and though she doesn't move like this, I bet she could ;)

ReplyDeleteAnd, of course, I loved the ears!
that is Charles Shultz's daughter Meredity doing the commentary. She used to have a series on RFD-TV with her mules.
ReplyDeleteI have little experience with dressage and I've never ridden a mule. But I think this is great.

ReplyDeleteMules are such cool animals. I just wish they were more comfortable. That looks like a pretty rough ride.
